Freeways in the Frontyard

It’s been a long drive
And there’s no telling when we will get home
With all our divisions marking the way

We had a fine time,
But I know now why you need to get going
There’s so much you can do out there on your own.

Like watch the clouds collide and cover up the setting sun
Just like we did when we were quite young

Everything’s a long drive,
Out here on the fringe of the city
Just watching the Freeway grow in our front yard.
We had a good time,
But I don’t know why we need to be settling
On the places we found out there in the world

Let’s count the rings around our eyes
After staring into the sun
Just like we did when we were quite young
Let’s watch the clouds collide and cover as the day gets done
Some days it like I never grew up but stayed so young

And made us into a movie with no ending
A pretty good start, a pretty good beginning
That faded long long before it ever hit the bend
