Bonus
material from 'the north side ditches':
1.
Sleeping
in Toronto (demo
version)
(.mp3
3.2M)
This
demo was recorded to try to get a grant. I was right
in the middle of an 8 month case of "chronic laryngitis",
which is the answer to the question: "What is going
on with the singing?" We almost used the other
tracks for the record but re-recorded all of them instead.
This version has the same line-up as the other songs
on the record.
2.
Somewhere Else
(demo
version)
(.mp3
5.1M)
Recorded
this with Dave Draves a couple of years back for some
reason. I played the bass and the piano and Draves played
the synth. I actually kind of prefer this version myself
... i think it has a lot of character.
3.
Captain Finch (demo
version)
(.mp3
3.2M)
Also
recorded with Dave Draves... right after it was written.
Andrew McCormack played the drums, Kevin Mcgarrager
played the bass, Tom Thompson played the steel and Dave
played the piano.
4.
The Lost Occasional
(demo
version)
(.mp3
4.1M)
Same
as above. Recorded right after we all played at the
National Gallery in our home town, Ottawa. We never
played with this line-up again after this, but it sure
was a great time recording this one.
5.
I'm
Not One (.mp3 6.0M)
Recorded
for a BUM (the great, wonderful, dearly departed,
West Coast Canadian band - ed.) compilation on Magic
Teeth records out of Victoria. Thanks to Gareth for
asking. Recorded one night during the Spring of 2002
at Little Bullhorn Prods. I played the guitar, mandolin
and made noises with a harp mic and Dave played with
the tape delay machine. The song is a mile long, but
I really like it.
