It’s been a while since we last updated.
Jim has been busy so far in 2013. He’s been producing records for other people and writing and demo-ing for himself.
Jim’s heading out this summer to play a few shows of his own.
He’ll be playing a free show as part of Ottawa’s Westfest – Westboro Village’s Festival of Music, Art & Life, celebrating its 10th edition in 2013!
Jim will make his Sled Island debut, playing two shows at the venerable Calgary annual festival. One show he’ll be headlining, the other he’ll be on a bill with Joel Plaskett Emergency and John K Samson.
Jim’s last show this summer will be headlining Ottawa’s Arboretum Arts Festival, marking its second year.
The details for all the shows are on Jim’s Tour page. Plus be sure to check out the festival websites, they are all doing really cool things.

Well, here we are a month into 2013 and I finally have something to tell you. I guess I could said a fair amount more here if I knew you wanted to read it all. Now not to get off topic, but I wrote a piece for a blog over the holidays on family and how I remember the holidays etc. I was surprised to be asked and it was a great exercise in using some other part of my brain that does not cause worry and anxiety. Here it is for ya all eh: http://bunchfamily.ca/
But now back to the business at hand: I am pretty happy to be announcing a little show I am doing on Saturday March, 9th. It is in a beauty little place outside of Ottawa called Kemptville and I am being joined by the super good Kalle Mattson. Here are some details in a list form if you prefer that type of reading activity. The food is great and the hang is pretty fine as well.
Jim Bryson w/ Kalle Mattson
Sat. March 9th, 2013. 7pm
The Branch, Kemptville, Ontario
That is the word for now. I am in the early stages of getting my ass in gear to make a record. I have a whole pile of songs and now I just need to finalize how these notes and words will be all be put in recorded form. I will know much better in the next two weeks.
I have also been feverishly working on a new project with Oh Susanna. Many of you know of this and have even been bothered by me about it. It is called Namedropper and we have somehow successfully asked more than a dozen amazing CDN songwriters to compose and lend songs to Suzie so we can make “music” with it all. We have been plugging away at this for the last few months and starting Sunday, I begin the mixing phase in Kingston with Zane Whitfield and from there, we will start to tell you all kinds of other half truths about what we plan to do with these recordings.
But that is for another time, see you on March 9th maybe even,
Instant Holiday Album
Instant Holiday Album is now available and going great already. My goal is pretty modest, but I think we can raise at the bare minimum $1000

Black Sheep Update:
Here is the update: Paul says Saturday is 95% sold out and some tickets remain for Sunday. I thank you all again right here for all these years of support at these shows. It makes the hard years end in a great way and the good years end in a great way.
My gratitude for all your support cannot go unmentioned or be underestimated!!!
Hug your family and take care of one another,
Well, we gathered, we hit record, we recorded more, we went home 15 hours later.

Here is a clip of how all of us running out of steam after 10 verses of The First Noel:
I feel weird in saying that I do not actually write here that often, it used to be a real outlet for me. I completely blame the social media world and the “140 character story club” I am now a part of over on Twiiter.
First off, I wanted to say how excited I am to be playing the Blacksheep shows this year. Not that I am not excited every year, but this last year was a rel emotional roller coaster full of such joy and new arrival and also a real sparring match with the blues as well. It also marked the fewest solo shows in any calendar year I have played in the 2000′s.
What does all this mean? I means I miss it. I miss singing and telling bad stories and annoying half the audience with them. I miss the exhale of words and dammit, I miss my band. I have love loved my year travelling with Kathleen Edwards and do not mean to diminish that, cause it is so very important to me and she really is family, but I also miss the other part of the brain I get to use.
Holiday Recording Attempt #1
So that being said, I am trying to bring a new level of something to this year’s show by trying out an experiement: The one day holiday EP. On December 1st, a few of us are gonna meet at Dave Drave’s Little Bullhorn at an hour more reserved for real work than music and try to record at least a half dozen holiday themed songs.
Some will be one mic and a gang of us gathered around singing to the player piano rolls and some will be fully envisioned musical attempts. I want to make music that would actually be tolerable to listen to and I hope it all works out. If it doesn’t, I will have bought some rum and wine and had a good time anyway.
Got a great crew coming in including Philippe Charbonneau on upright bass, John Higney, Jill Zmud (and many many more???).
A idea for an art related touch through Rob Hinchley for selling these and making them special is a foot as well. Oh yes, we will be donated the $$$ as well, so know you have spent well.
12th Annual Blacksheep Inn SHows:
For those interested and wondering (and not on Twitter and / or Facebook), here is the details regarding the Black Sheep shows.
I am excited to have my friend Rueben Degroot make the drive from Kingston (where I have been spending lots of time recording with Oh Susanna) to open the Saturday show and Paul has helped handpick the wonderful Kelly Sloan for the Sunday Matinee. (We almost rented an 11 room cottage for the Saturday night to have a big old party, but the old dad’s in us got sensible).

Saturday Dec 22nd (with Rueben Degroot)
Sunday Dec 23rd (4pm Matinee)

Ok, that is the word from my basement. I wanted to say thank you to my white plastic 1st generation Macbook for 5 plus years of service, it has recorded almost all my demo’s and so much more up until right this second as I type and has been a good friend, I am going the way the world is not and buying a desktop computer for such activities.
That is all gang, talk soon,
